Google: Meta Tag Keywords NO LONGER COUNT!

Trying to increase the traffic to your site can be nerve racking especially if you don't know the right way to go about it. Search engine optimization methods such as keyword meta tags are outdated. Google (who basically powers all internet search engines) no longer uses keywords and sees keywords as ineffective and pointless.

Here are a few Q/A from google regarding meta tags and keywords:

Q: Does Google ever use the "keywords" meta tag in its web search ranking?

A: In a word, no. Google does sell a Google Search Appliance, and that product has the ability to match meta tags, which could include the keywords meta tag. But that's an enterprise search appliance that is completely separate from our main web search. Our web search (the well-known search at Google.com that hundreds of millions of people use each day) disregards keyword metatags completely. They simply don't have any effect in our search ranking at present.

Q: Why doesn't Google use the keywords meta tag?
A: About a decade ago, search engines judged pages only on the content of web pages, not any so-called "off-page" factors such as the links pointing to a web page. In those days, keyword meta tags quickly became an area where someone could stuff often-irrelevant keywords without typical visitors ever seeing those keywords. Because the keywords meta tag was so often abused, many years ago Google began disregarding the keywords meta tag.

Search engine ranking

When its comes to website search engine ranking many people believe that your website is automatically placed at the top of search engines just because you launch your website. Search engine ranking is based off of a crawl feature. Search engines (like Google) crawl the text on a website for the occurrence of content relative to a website to determine how that website ranks in search engines. This also includes your web address. If the web address www.xyz.com appears 50 million times across the internet then its search engine ranking will increase. This also includes keywords relative to the web address.

Paying for ranking space
You do have the other option of paying to have your website ranking increased. Google allows individual and businesses the option to purchase ad space in search engines to increase search engine visibility. If your going to pay for ad or ranking space do so with caution. Paying for ad/ranking space can get pretty expensive.

Increase your search engine ranking
The goal is to get your website address and name on as many website as possible. Register with forums, directories, blogs and social networking relative to your website. Create profiles and post information about your website. This is a great way to get your website heard throughout search engines like Google. The more your website appears on the internet the higher you will appear in the search engines.
